The ContextThe Village of Paisley, located near Bruce Peninsula, is a small community known for its art scene. With a growing older population, it is pertinent to preserve Paisley's local art, agriculture, and business community. The Paisley Mill is located along the Teeswater River, surrounded by wooded and conservation areas. The ProposalThe proposed adaptive reuse of the Paisley Mill explores programming to generate a sense of community while supporting the Paisley local economy and artists. It will be a new place of commune for farmers' markets, art development, education, and respite. It seeks to preserve the local art scene through exhibitions, workshops, retail spaces, as well as private studio spaces. A co-working space will be added to provide opportunity for idea generation to stimulate the local economy. An event space is provided for weekly farmers' markets. The proposed addition follows a design concept of revitalization - a renewal of a traditional barn form. This is achieved through the use of tall curtain walls and contrasting charred wood siding.
