Design Intent
The Paisley Mills' Adaptive Reuse aims to represent Paisley's agricultural and artistic history while also embracing a new generation and growing community. It will feature multi-use spaces for the community and visitors to enjoy. Each space is multi-functional to adapt to all types of gatherings from daily use to large events. The reuse achieves a space for all generations, while staying true to the character of the town The Paisley Mills adaptive reuse sustainably creates a space for the entire community by preserving as much of the existing structure as possible and using recycled materials on the new additions. It was a priority to reduce the footprint of the new additions and preserve the natural surrounds, so they are proposed in the area where the land is already cleared. The goal is to increase the functionality and enhance the building’s form while preserving the original craftsmanship and character. Main Floor
The main floor features a Farmer’s Market and Art Gallery to support the local businesses and artists. A free flowing layout allows visitors to travel between the market space, the lounge and outdoors effortlessly. The main floor is also adaptable to hold different events from a private event to a daily farmer's market or art show. The open kitchen allows for fresh farm to table meals while also giving light to the culinary arts, providing an intimate space for guests to connect with the chef. The main level was designed for the community to be able to use this space in a multitude of ways. Second Floor The Youth Community space is imagined with the incoming generations in mind. After enjoying the natural outdoors, kids and teens can enjoy time together in a space dedicated to them. This space can also be used for organized activities and parties. Third Floor The third floor houses a community studio workspaces for local artists to work quietly or collaborate, and get together. |
Jasleen DhaliwalWelcome to my Studio 6 Blog! I am a third year Architectural Technology Co-op Student at Sheridan College. I am interested in the impact design has on its users and the relationship between the built and natural environments. This relationship motivates my designs, and I aspire to create interactive and functional environments that bring brightness to the user's life. ArchivesCategories |
